The Bulletin is the journal of the British Sundial Society. It comprises scientific and other papers, mainly contributed by society members and covering their fields of interest. It also carries reports of the principal society meetings and reviews of relevant books and papers from other journals. It is published four times a year in distinctive yellow covers; each number at the moment. The cardioid sundial is quite interesting with the time given by a numeral cast on the cylinder at the center. I had the opportunity to visit the Seiko museum, thanks to Yukio Ono, member of the Japan Sundial Society. This museum displays some ancient sundials, some from China, and has a lot of portable sundials in wood, metal or ivory.

A sundial is a device that tells the time of day when there is sunlight by the apparent position of the Sun in the the narrowest sense of the word, it consists of a flat plate (the dial) and a gnomon, which casts a shadow onto the dial. As the Sun appears to move across the sky, the shadow aligns with different hour-lines, which are marked on the dial to indicate the time of day. Horizontal sundials are usually round, square or octagonal. They can be set on a pedestal, low garden wall or south-facing window tip of the gnomon on a horizontal sundial points North.
