Reading schemes, such as the oxford reading tree have been used for many years to help with the teaching of reading in primary schools, from the ages of around 5 years to 11 years of age (Mallet, ). Reading schemes mainly consist of fictional books in which progress up in stages of difficulty throughout the development of reading. The Key Words Reading Scheme is a series of 36 English language early readers children's books, published by the British publishing company, Ladybird Books. School Reading Schemes As regular readers will know, my son is in Reception class at school currently. His school uses a range of different reading schemes, and it can be difficult for parents to understand how the various schemes relate to each other.   Some children seem to learn to read effortlessly but for others, reading is one of the most difficult things they have to do. I have posted before about some pluses and minuses of reading schemes for home educators. This post is about reading schemes for children who find reading challenging or who are likely to find reading difficult.
